The project is described as a new take on the classic folk tale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, which is being crafted as "an adventure movie with strong comedic undertones," according to The Wrap . The aforementioned actors are all testing for the male lead Allen, who may be a stand-in for Ali Baba. Dan Stevens is the only actor out of this trio who has worked with Shawn Levy before, playing Sir Lancelot in the upcoming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. It isn't known who is writing the screenplay at this time, or when shooting may begin, but Shawn Levy will also produce through his 21 Laps production company. On the heels of today's news that Universal Pictures is adding The Wolf Man to its Monsters Shared Universe franchise , screenwriter Ed Solomon ( Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure , Men In Black) has been brought in to round out the "writers room." Ed Solomon joins Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), whose involvement in The Wolf Man reboot was rumored earlier today and Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley, who signed on last month, alongside writers-producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, in what is being compared to Pixar's brain trust or a TV writer's room. Each writer will have a hand in helping each other's movie as they all work to create a model for serialized storytelling. While Aaron Guzikowski has been tasked with writing The Wolf Man reboot, Ed Solomon and Noah Hawley haven't been assigned a specific project yet. Heat Vision Blog also lists characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and Van Helsing as being developed under this universe.
